How to Care for Discus Fish

Sunday, June 26th, 2011

The Discus fish is a large cichlid from the Amazon River, its tributaries and flood plains, in South America. Discus and the many varieties were first described in 1840 by Dr. Heckel as Symphysodon discus, this name is now in use for the Heckel discus variety. Originally, the three  color varieties were green, brown and blue, but now a much wider choice are available.

The discus is a social fish and forms large groups in their native waters, and has awell advanced social behaviour; they are one of the few real schooling cichlids. Keep in Mind when beginning to care for discus; always begin with a set of them. They need the social interaction to grow their character to itshighest potential.

At present , it is hard to find the original color variants in pet shops, only the Heckel is sometimes imported. Most of the discus fish youfind today are captive bred color varieties. Some of the discus have lost their stripes and thereby their natural ability to communicate in the school. One of the advantages of the captive bred discus is that they are now much simpler to maintain than the imported ones.

It is getting increasingly easier to keep Discus Aquarium Fish with the new technology improving water quality and Discus Fish health, which may explain the rise in demand. The number of new dealers and breeders is growing quickly and even small aquatic shops are stocking a range of Discus. They are beautiful, while still remaining a challenge to keep and breed, with the latter being very satisfying and will even pay for the hobby. Most people that keep Discus will eventually want to breed them as it is a great experience, though breeding Discus Fish can be challenging

Discus Fish are very timid fish and tend to hide when they are not confident so keep the tank away from noisy and busy areas particularly near doorways and halls . The only other component to think about is the height of the tank, highest possible as Discus are distracted by movement above and this may cause them undue anxiety .

Discus should be fed a mixed , vitamin and protein rich diet, so that it is important to use a number of different types of food: Fish flakes provide a complete diet, though Discus prefer to eat deeper in the water, even at the bottom, so soak and squeeze out the flakes before adding to the tank. Frozen brine shrimp, defrosted and rinsed, make an excellent supplement and the carotene helps enhance colors. Frozen irradiated bloodworms are a good daily addition, although the flakes contain some already. Do not over feed, Discus fish are grazers, and will eat bit by bit , so allow them time.

Although not easy to keep, these beautiful fish are a very rewarding hobby, if you have the patience and time for them: The exquisite colors are a wonderful addition to any tank or aquarium.

Tips To Make You A Favourite Of Pet Owners

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Just like other family members, pets are also an essential part of the family. Pet owners love photographing their pets. But co-operation from pets is very rare. And because of their uncooperative nature, people should equip themselves with a lot of reel and of course patience. While clicking your pet, you can do without a special camera. If you like this article on paintings visit pet portrait painting for more education.

In fact, some of the best pet pictures have been taken with some of the least expensive cameras. Today’s easy to use cameras can make displaying enlarged pictures on the wall a possibility. The negative will be larger with the help of a 35mm camera and thus the enlarged photo would appear crisp. Pre-focusing on an area and snapping when the pet enters that particular area would be a very efficient move.

Just like a magnet, a spool of thread would attract your cat. Hence, focus on the thread and take a lot of photos when the cat discovers it. Pet dogs can cause trouble when it comes to taking picture, but you can distract them with the help of some noise. You can start clicking pictures as soon as the dog responds to the noise. Make use of pre-focus in this case as well.

When you are outdoors click your dogs pictures while engaging him in play with the help of a Frisbee or a stick. However, you will need to focus at a spot first and then throw these things there. Kids and pets are the most natural subjects of photography. You do not need to tell them to pose and yet get a great picture by capturing their expressions while they are playing. More information on the topic of paintings is located at oil painting photo.

You could give your photography an unpretentious and natural edge if you closely follow the tips mentioned above. Do not distract the kids and pet by sitting too close to them but sit as low as possible to get a natural pose. Pictures from a different level do not come out as good as those from the same level. Let the animal fill the frame by going closer to it. By zooming, you can capture distinct facial expressions of the animal.

If you want to shoot the birds in a cage, to make the bars disappear, you need to do a tight close up. The same technique should work when photographing fish in an aquarium. It’s always better to take a number of shots, so that you have a variety to choose from. Good pet shots are possible only by being patient.

So, when your pet is in a cooperative mood, take advantage of the situation, don’t be stingy with the film and take lots of shots. According to professional photographers, the more number of pictures you take more is the number of classic pictures you would get from the batch. Go ahead, take more and more pictures and get more classic photos. This holds true while taking pictures of hard-to-click pets.

Canine Photography Techniques

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

Photographers prefer clicking pets a lot, trailing only behind their love for clicking children. Perfect pictures of your pets would become possible by using these tips. It is easier to click pets with a longer telephoto lens even though good pictures can be achieved by using any kind of lens. If you like this article on paintings visit pet painting for more education.

A telephoto lens is essential to click a pet from far away enough that he does not scare away. A pet would act his natural best if it is unaware of what is being done by you. One of the best ways to photograph a pet is from his level. Since most pets are smaller than we are, this means you may have to get down on your hands and knees to get a good picture. But the results will be worth it particularly if you can get your pet to look straight into the lens.

Being quick and ready is important if you are to click your pet. It is possible to be ready for the shot by having the focus already set and the exposure pre-set. Metering or Focus does not need to be checked after being set once.

While shooting pets, it is easy to get the right exposure. A light meter should be used or else the auto mode for such an effect. Bracketing is important for anyone who owns a very dark or a white animal. Thank you for reading about custom portrait of a house and paintings.

The meter reading should be overshot by one or two f steps for clicking a white pet. To bring out the actual dark shades of a darker pet, use a lower f stop.

The answer to where the focus needs to be is very easy. The pet’s body can be out of focus and not draw attention as long as his eye is in focus. The picture can keep its appeal intact by keeping the eye in focus.

Dark fur or feathers surrounding a dark eye make it important to click the pet’s eye with a highlight in it. Turning the pet’s face towards the sun would help achieve the mentioned effect. One thing that can detract from a good pet photograph is the background. Try keeping your pet in front of a plain background. Using a simpler background will help keep the pet in limelight.

Clicking pictures of your pet can be assisted by having a friend around. Using your friend as a distraction you can get good pictures of your pet. It turns out to be a great help when the pet is the curious kinds which would trail you around to figure out what you are up to. Pet photography comes out perfect when a lot of patience and these tips are used.

Where Should I Put My Artificial Outdoor Plants?

Thursday, February 3rd, 2011

When it comes to artificial outdoor plants, few know the best way in which to use them effectively. They can easily appreciate the beauty of them, but knowing where to place them is a difficult task. It’s about getting the right balance of beauty and ambience.

Here are some useful ways to make the most of artificial outdoor plants.

The pathway leading to do your door – from the small terraced house to the grand manor house, the path to your door is important. When someone is walking to your door, they look around for visually appealing extras to make them feel welcome. If you find that the exterior of your home is lacking in appearance, artificial outdoor plants can make a real difference. As people open the gate to visit your home, they will instantly note the well presented house frontage and feel welcomed inside.

The back garden – if you have children and pets and a seemingly large garden, sometimes it can be hard keeping your eye on what they’re doing all the time. Parents don’t want their children getting hurt on a real plant or suchlike. Ivy is a common problem in the garden and you wouldn’t want your children or your pets going near it. In this case, it is artificial outdoor plants that can really benefit you.

Alfresco dining – for those that have a passion for dining outdoors in the pleasant summer weather, chances are that you have an outdoor table that you use. Alfresco dining is a popular pastime. However, I bet you haven’t considered brightening up the table with an artificial outdoor plant before? By placing it in the middle of the table, people will be particularly keen to compliment you on your choice of outdoor décor. Not only this, but artificial plants don’t attract the wasps and bees like real plants do, so you can eat your dinner in peace.
