Advice On Buying A New Bed

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

It is a well known fact that most of us spend a good proportion of our lives in bed. If you sleep for 8 hours a day, that equates to 33% of your whole day, sleeping! For this reason alone, it is sensible to make sure that when you are looking to buy a new bed, you choose wisely. When you are thinking of buying a new bed, there is a lot you need to consider apart from the cost. The guidelines detailed below, if followed correctly, should make that procedure simple.

Your first step is to decide how much you want to spend on a new bed; it is important that you do not skimp on the cost of your new bed as research has shown that there are health conditions that can be attributed to bad or not enough sleep. Additionally, make sure you factor in a decent share of your budget to go on a new mattress to buy at the same time as a bed.

There are many different sizes of bed to choose from depending on your needs and the space available. Before you decide on anything larger than a single bed, you must ensure that the intended bedroom has enough available space that a double bed is not going to cause inconvenience. With regards to sizes, you could buy a single, double (or prince), full size double (queen), king sized or even a California (or super) king sized bed.

Bed construction has evolved quite drastically over the years and there are now a variety of different bed styles available on the market. It is important to take time researching what is available on the market and what kind of style you prefer or would look good in your bedroom.

When choosing a mattress you need to spend time in shops actually testing how the mattress feels, whether it is too soft or too hard, whether its construction is comforting and relaxing or not; and whether it is supportive to your body. Mattresses come with or without springs depending on your preference.

The most popular mattresses are made using large open coils, and although not the most comfortable solution, they are the cheapest. If you have the money to spend, and you are looking for a mattress that contains springs, then a pocket sprung mattress is the answer.

If you would like a mattress without springs then you have three options: foam, futon or floatation. Memory (visco-elastic) foam responds to your body temperature and moulds to the shape of your body, offering good back support. A futon is more of a space saving option due to its ability to be folded into a sofa-bed, though it is stylish. A floatation mattress is simply a waterbed or similar design that is great for allergy sufferers, if possibly a little too soft.
